Van Brocklin’s 75-Year-Old Passing Record Still Stands

Oct 5, 2026

“Norm Van Brocklin’s single-game record of 554 passing yards was even more unlikely than most people realize,” wrote Eva Geitheim in Sports Illustrated, September 28, 2026.

Geitheim interviewed Karen J. Vanderyt, the daughter of Norm Van Brocklin and author of The Dutchman and Portland’s Finest Rose, for her comprehensive feature, “The History Behind a 75-Year-Old NFL Passing Record That Still Stands.”  She wrote, “Norm Van Brocklin’s daughter Karen Vanderyt says, ‘Records are to be broken,’ but for 75 years, no one has broken her father’s record.”  Only 27 such games have occurred, and 17 of these were from 2010 to present.
